Flamenco Fridays Sosegá a New Palo
Sosegá is a newly created flamenco form (a palo) inspired by the unhurried pace and contemplative lifestyle of Granada, Spain. Key characteristics
- No Fixed Rhythmic Close: Unlike traditional palos, Sosegá doesn’t have a predetermined ending, allowing the music to flow and develop with more space and fluidity. This aims to evoke a sense of living without urgency and prolonging the moment.
- Slow and Unfinished Rhythm: The form is inspired by the cante of the soleá, but with a shortened, slow, and somewhat “unfinished” rhythm.
- Deep Expressiveness: Sosegá employs a lower sixth string tuned to B on the guitar, aiming to add depth and encourage a more relaxed and reflective mood.
- Collaborative Creation: Notably, Sosegá was developed through the collaboration of a diverse group of flamenco artists from different generations and backgrounds, something considered unique for a flamenco palo.
