Roosevelt Holts

Roosevelt Holts (born onnear Tylertown in Mississippi  ; dead thein Franklinton, Louisiana ) is an American Blues singer and guitarist . Roosevelt Holts was born in 1905 near the town of Tylertown in the state of Mississippi . In the 1930s, Roosevelt Holts played a bit of the guitar as an amateur; his meeting with Tommy Johnson will turn his life upside down. Tommy Johnson is then married to Rosa Yongblood, cousin of Holts. Johnson and Holts meet and Johnson teaches blues at Holts. When Johnson and his wife left Tylertown around 1937 to live in Jackson , the state capital, Roosevelt Holts followed them. He and Tommy are going to perform together in and around town. After a year, Roosevelt returned to his hometown where he performed fluently. He learned the technique of bottleneck with CP Martinand plays in the cities of the Delta  ; at that time, he was sentenced to four years in prison. Released, he moved to Bogalusa , Louisiana , where he found a job in a stationery factory. An accident at work renders him disabled and prevents him from carrying any heavy load [ . He then worked as a farmer and did not play much until he was discovered by researcher David Evans who recorded it for the first time in 1968. A few records and some tours in the United States would follow in the 1970s. Age makes him leave the studios and he dies onin the town of Franklinton .
